It occurred to me over the weekend that it would be very useful to have some form of template to work from for future projects. So with this in mind, I have been concentrating on the generic background components, eg profile support, menu and game states, basic classes, and all four control pads supported in gameplay. And after a nice relaxing weekend, its mostly done! With the exception of the distributed leaderboard system I want to implement, and maybe some more code to handle events such as pad disconnection during gameplay, its all there! So all in all, not a bad weekend of self projects and games. Peace!

Between work coming up to deadline, and xmas making life mad as usual, I've still managed to get fairly far with this. Currently, there are four players on screen, all controlled byt the four connected 360 pads, with correct sprite animations, including 8-way directional running, and idle when stopped. Basic HUD is in, and menu is being worked on. Its all using placeholder graphics at the moment, but seeing different coloured Link sprites running around on screen with four players is kind of cool. Next up: - Menu with players connected
- render order sorted
- firing lasers
- zombies spawning
- lasers killing zombies
Coming soon! Aiming to have all this sorted by Tuesday (23/12) , so can have some mates testing the gameplay.

Right, the main plan behind this is a quick turnaround game, for XNA, that I can charge for, and won't eat spare time. Original(ish) idea: 3D clone of smash TV. Unique features: 4 players, more over network if possible, live support, and maybe an idea forming on how to implement leaderboards globally without Live support for them. No story whatsoever, controls based on Geometry Wars.

After about a month of messing around with the new XNA stuff, while it would be possible to do 3D, I've decided to go the 2D route instead. It'll shorten dev time considerably, it will make whoever I rope into doing the art side happier, due to it being sprites now, and just make everything quicker, which was the whole point of the project to start with. So, it will now be a little TOO close to the original (Smash TV), but I have a few ideas for that as well, like dismissing the 'Game show' idea, and making it more a silly side of zombie survival. It also means I can spend ALOT more time on game play code, which is the main meat of this. Who knows, maybe a sequel can be 3D ;)

I got round to sorting out some basic graphics, so the first iteration is officially done. I say this iteration, because I have a few more plans as to what to include for a next version. The main idea resembles the completion percentage that is viewable on the mygamercard.net, and having a second leaderboard along side the first, sorted by completion percentage. This would require a fair amount more calculation and reading from the xml, but is still relatively easily doable. But for now, I'm concentrating on my XNA game, so it may be a while! :) Gamer Score Leaderboard While I did promise full source, its still fairly ugly, so I'll tidy it up one night, and then post it.
