ZPLR - ARRGGHH ZOMBIES!

E-mail

Basic zombies are now implemented, health, hits, and deaths work. Basic AI makes them follow the player, need to add a little something extra to keep them from clumping up. Then its onto the spawners. I've had a few extra ideas relating to these, which should make the gameplay a little more dynamic, but I'll see how it plays before committing to using them.

eeePC 702 internal memory mod

Last year I managed to get hold of an eeePC 702 8GB model, great little machine. Only issue was storage: with an 8GB solid state hard drive, it was great for mobility, but after installing Windows XP, you wind up with a grand total of 2GB free. The first thing I tried was adding an 8GB SD card into the built in reader, but it still wasn't enough. Fast forward to this years Christmas sales, where I managed to pick up a 16GB USB flash drive for £13.99 off play.com.

I remembered a mod I saw on some random site, that I haven't been able to locate since. It detailed a mod where a stripped down flash drive was housed in the same compartment as the inbuilt SSD, and connected by running a USB extension cable through the chassis, and soldering directly onto the left hand USB port, rendering it useless externally, but effectively adding the drive as internal memory. Seemed like a great idea!

ZPLR - update...

Its been a while since I've documented anything on this project, so here goes. Basically, for the past week I've done not a whole lot. I fancied a bit of a break, but now am back into it and raring to go, mainly on the Thursday and Friday, as I've got them 2 days off. Before the break, I did get a few extra bits sorted, mainly fixing bugs that had crept in while adding features, all fixed now, but also added code to handle firing bullets, and the input for them, so these are now fired using the right stick, very much like the controls of Geometry Wars.

Next up is adding enemies, as well as coordinating with the artist I've roped into this, as he starts creating the actual player sprites. The artist is actually my housemate, Chris Hodgson.

ZPLR - Levels loading, room transitions working

E-mail

The levels consist of a grid of 4x4 rooms, bottom left being the start and top right being the boss room. These are now generated, and you are able to transition between them. As of yet, the is no random variation on the paths you can take, this is being worked on. Next up is spawning enemies with a basic weapon to destroy them, and then some form of scripting system to determine spawn patterns and to determine when each room has been cleared.

Not much has been done on this recently, mainly because I've been distracted by a small hardwre project which I will get around to writing up soon.
